Quality Matters
It’s worth investing in a good pair of skates for kids. Too often, parents buy the cheapest skates they can find because they aren’t sure if their kids are going to like playing hockey.
Cheap skates can cause injuries. Kids may not play as well, and then not enjoy the game! A vicious cycle.
So if you need to buy skates, the brand matters but you should to pay attention to the fit of skates. So consider buying skates from a sports shop or an specialized online website.
- Buy well-known brands such as Koho, CCM, Mission, Bauer or Easton.
- Pay attention to ankle support. This is especially important to beginner skaters, as they usually have weaker ankles.
- Try skates on with the socks they’ll be wearing. Don’t be surprised if it isn’t their regular shoe size.
For adults, search and buy hockey skates online. Try on in store, but shop online when you know what you like. But if you want the store to heat/fit your skates, buying in-store may be the way to go. You’ll also save money if you buy a model/style from past years.
Buy good hockey skates. It’s worth it for your kids skill-building, fun and enjoyment (and yours too!).
